For a quick overview see below
1 - The Diagram 1 - left shows the
C Major Pentatonic Scale.
The Formula = 1-2-3-5-6-1
The BLUE number 1 on the bottom string is over the note of C on the Keyboard (so
the slide rule is set to the Key of C Major)
2 - The Diagram left also shows the
A Minor Pentatonic Scale.
The Formula = 1-b3-4-5-b7-1
BUT NOTE Because A minor is the relative minor for the Key of C Major (the 6th note
being the relative minor to the Tonic)
This Pentatonic Slide Rule has been set up for easy viewing for guitarists. Instead
of using the minor pentatonic formula of 1-b3-4-5-b7-1
just use the formula numbers 6-1-2-3-5-6
The BLUE number 6 on the bottom string is over the note of A on the Keyboard (so
the slide rule is set to the Key of A minor)
So you see the C Major Pentatonic Scale is in effect the same as the A Minor Pentatonic
Scale
3 - The Diagram left also shows an instant easy way to find the A Blues Scale by
adding the B
See Diagram 2 below
1 - The Diagram 2 - left shows the A Major Scale and the RED Circles show the A Blues
Scale.
The Formula = 1-b3-4-#4-5-b7-1
BUT NOTE Compare the two Diagrams 1 and 2 and it
Becomes immediately obvious that diagram 1 is easier to read by simply using the
relative minor pattern and adding the B letter shown for your Blue note
